WHY WE LOVE HER:
This folk singer/songwriter is as sweet as pie.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Whimsical singer-songwriter Colleen O’Connell is returning to the forefront of the Australian music scene with her new folk-pop infused 12-track album Sorrow, Longing and a Garden that Grows.
Recorded and arranged over the last year with deftness by Sydney producer Michael Carpenter, the titles hints at the vulnerability and beauty expressed within the record. O’Connell has a sweet and expressive voice and brings freshness in her second solo album. From the bouncy Make Amends to the hauntingly beautiful melody of Boarding House, Sorrow, Longing and a Garden that Grows is an elegant treat.
With lyrics as the focus of O’Connell’s tunes, she carries on the folk tradition, whilst also striking a rare balance between fragility and full-blown possession in her delivery. Her album is as honest as it is captivating.
