The 2017 AIR Awards are fast approaching! As we have previously reported, after a year off last year, this year's independent music awards will be held in Adelaide in late July. Adelaide is an absolute gem of a musical city and a hub of talent, and the awards take place amidst the City Sounds Winter Festival accompanied by a music conference.
This year's award nominees have been announced and include 17 Australian women - plus members of two orchestras, of whom we are still counting - and feature three women in the Breakthrough Artist of The Year category.
Special mention has to be made in regards to the wonderful Alex Lahey who is nominated in four categories, including Independent Artist of the Year. Julia Jacklin's star continues to rise and rise after the release of her album, Don't Let The Kids Win and she has received two nominations, as have Melbourne-based duo Big Scary featuring drummer Joanna Syme.
Congratulations to all the women who are making music and waves as independent artists in Australia. Check out the full list below!
