Country star Kacey Musgraves releases two dreamy, spacious, sparkly singles in the lead up to her next album Golden Hour
The boundary-pushing darling of country music Kacey Musgraves has released two brand new songs in the lead up to her new album Golden Hour out next month.
Musgraves has become a fixture in America's country scene over the years and is a stellar songwriter whose hits each test the limits of what a country star and their songs are meant to be. Over and over again, Musgraves keeps acing that game.
So! The new songs. Firstly, Space Cowboy is a heartbreak smash, albeit as gentle as a smash can be. The smash factor comes in its hooks - this worm will crawl into your heart via your ear, and you'll be thinking of the chorus moments after you heard it for the first time.
Space Cowboy is not about a cowboy in space, rather it should read Space, Cowboy as she declares, "You can have your space, cowboy." Although when she performed the cut on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, she did wear a sparkly jump suit that was perfect attire for star climbing - perhaps it was a nod to Jamiroquai's 1994 funkier single of the same name.
Butterflies is less riffy than Space Cowboy but the sonics and pace make for an equally dreamy and intriguing record.
Both songs hint that Musgraves' next album is shaping up to be a shiny, dreamy affair that will invite its listeners to fly with the butterflies into the big blue and beyond. Just look at the album cover.
