When Angie McMahon talks, it is almost sparrow like. She speaks with lightness, fragility and an attractive vulnerability that makes you lean in. Then McMahon approaches the microphone and sings with the boldness of a lion roaring her heart out.

After a three minute song, you have to gather yourself and close your jaw as the sound you just heard creates a visceral response. And then McMahon speaks again, delicately and humorously and humbly, and you are an official fan. One song book ended by cute anecdotes is all it takes.

She commands the attention of audiences when she speaks and when she sings. This is Angie McMahon’s appeal.

It’s been a big ride for the singer/songwriter who has secured support slots for Alanis Morrisette, Father John Misty, The Jezabels, among others, and is currently on tour with Angus and Julia Stone.

Her debut single Slow Mover hit number 33 on triple j’s Hottest 100, was streamed millions of times, and audiences can’t get enough.

Now, McMahon has released her next song Missing Me. It’s another tune that has a great chorus and shows off her strong and moving voice.

“Missing Me is about releasing all that punchy sass and angst that bubbles under the surface when somebody isn’t listening to you, or they’re letting you down, or breaking your heart,” Angie says of the song.

The live video recorded as part of the release exemplifies McMahon’s gift of a voice.

Missing Me is another instalment from McMahon’s upcoming LP out later this year.

In the meantime, try and catch Angie McMahon live.

Missing Me is out now.
