It's a singing/songwriting lovefest for Missy Higgins, Ed Sheeran and a Futon Couch.
Last week Australia's super star singer/songwriter Missy Higgins released a brand new song the same day she announced she would be opening for fellow super star singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran when he is on tour here in March. What's more, old mate declared his affection for Missy Higgins in an official statement, “In Australia Missy Higgins will be joining me, which I’m very happy about as I’m a long-time fan of her music.“
The love hasn't died over the years, with Sheeran saying the same thing to radio station Nova back in 2012 when he told Australians how Missy Higgins was “one of my first biggest crushes” going on to say he fancied her muchly when he was young.
It was a singing songwriting party of a day, matched only by the power of love - Ed for Missy, and Missy for her husband as she spoke of the inspiration behind her new song Futon Couch.
"It is the story of me meeting my husband in Broome, Western Australia. He was my good friend’s housemate and one day he walked into the living room where I was waiting for my friend. I sat on the Futon Couch making small-talk with him while he did the dishes and I thought: “where did THIS guy come from and why is he so lovely and how can I surreptitiously arrange to hang out with him more?” After that day, I popped round for tea at my friend’s house way more often. We fell in love. We sang “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” together at our friend’s wedding the following week and a few years later, I walked down the aisle towards him. This single tracks the beginning of our relationship and follows it into an unknown future.”
The song is the first record off her forthcoming release Solastalgia which fans - of which Ed is the biggest - can expect in May this year.
More tickets have been announced for Ed Sheeran's Perth and Sydney shows today. Details here.
Futon Couch is out now.
