Jessie Reyez is about to become a superstar, but this Canadian soul/pop/R&B star is doing it her way. She's the Wonder Woman of the music industry, and her voice will rip your heart out.
The first thing people want you to know about Jessie Reyez is that she comes with endorsements from huge stars - Chance the Rapper, Alessia Cara, Calvin Harris and Meghan Trainor have all had their hearts won over by this cracking soul/R&B/reggae/pop icon in the making - but Jessie stands on her own two feet.
A few days ago she made her debut on Jimmy Fallon with her latest single Figures which is an acoustic soul banger in the vain of Amy Winehouse, India Arie, Erykah Badu and Bob Marley. And Jessie Reyez made an absolute splash. But if you want to see the heart and soul of Jessie Reyez, listen to her powerful song Gatekeeper, the true story of her first introduction to the music biz where some doofus told her he was the gatekeeper and she'd have to do boring things like get drunk and sleep with executives if she wanted to "stand out" from the millions of people who want to be a star.
But, alas, she was having none of it. She is a feminist, an advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement among other worthy causes, but mainly freakishly talented with conviction in spades. And she will be a super star despite not accepting the aforementioned invitation.
Check out her new video for Figures, her performance on Fallon and all of her other cracking songs, and you'll fall in love with our new Wonder Woman. We even created a playlist below. You're welcome.
