Updated: Interview with Vivid Ideas performer ILUKA: The moment I cease to travel is when I have lost my sense of curiosity and wonder for the world

Today, we wanted to re-run our interview with retro singer/songwriter Iluka who will be flying in between her support slot for Killing Heidi just to sing for us at Vivid Ideas! We look forward to hosting you at our first event Pathway to Platform. In the meantime, enjoy this interview from February this year.

Nikki Thorburn's voice was made to tell stories. The Sydney-based artist - strike that, Sydney-based-"ish" more on that later - is better known under her musical moniker ILUKA whose voice consistently compels you to listen. Now, she has released two new singles from her upcoming EP Blue My Soul which is due out 17 February, and they are bangers. If these two songs, Blue My Soul and Blue Jean Baby, are anything to go by, the rest of the album will continue to cement her place as an Australian artist we should all be proud of. ILUKA took the time to chat with Music Love all about her new album and tour, being a spiritual person and how she will never cease to travel the world.

Helen Shanahan - the stunning singer/songwriter from Perth whose honesty, melodies, and generosity, will make your spirit rise

Upon hearing Perth songstress Helen Shanahan's new song I Only Hide, it is easy to be reminded how compelling organic instrumentation, a good recording room, an alluring voice, and a great story or message can be. Such is the case for Helen who has been laying down music since 2009 with her debut EP Girl in Love. Since then, she has gone on to record a second EP Finding Gold in 2015 to much acclaim, and to be a recipient of the Telstra Road to Discovery Award. Clare Bowditch, with whom Helen once performed a duet, said, “I did not know Helen before I heard her sing. Once I heard her sing, I couldn't un-hear it: she has such talent, such a beautiful voice." Helen has recently taken herself over to Nashville, and into the talented hands and ears of producer Brad Jones. He and Helen spent ten days working on her debut full length release. They have created a wonderful recording in the first single I Only Hide, released a couple of weeks back, which leads to much excited anticipation for the rest of the album due out in the coming months. Helen chats to Music Love about her new confessional song I Only Hide, its accompanying video which deals with how her anxiety makes her feel like two people sometimes, her musical pathway so far, and hot chicken in Nashville.

Wilsn is one of the finest soul artists and best vocalists in Australia.

In the very early days of the conception of Music Love, Shannon Busch AKA Wilsn was top of mind. She is one of Australia's best vocalists and soul artists and is to be celebrated. Wilsn is about to head to SXSW to showcase her soul to the world. Her songs and her voice are breathtakingly fine, and her commitment and dedication to mastering her craft are inspirational. Her EP is called Don't Give It Up. One listen and it quickly becomes apparent that Shannon was born to sing and write soul. Growing up in a musical family, listening to the greats, singing in the church choir, and then going on to study jazz after school have all been steps along Shannon's musical pathway and a great foundation for the music she is making today. Shannon will stay in the States, in Nashville and LA after her SXSW showss - she's just signed a management deal with Seth Friedman (Natasha Bedingfield, Will.I.Am, The Black Eyed Peas, John Legend), a co-publishing deal with labels in Australia and the US and is killing it. Before Shannon leaves, she took some time to chat with Music Love about soul music in Australia and her long list of favourite Australian women in music.
